All vehicles are different, but the process should remain the same.
Location – GPS Devices need a clear view of the sky:
- Best placement is under plastic of dashboard, alternate locations may be rear parcel shelf, or near windows.
- Avoid installing under seats and metal, inside engine bays, near moving parts, near power cables, near high-current devices, etc.
- Drone devices have built-in GPS Antennas, when mounted, considerations of what is directly above the device needs to be taken
Wire Routing:
- Secure wiring with tie straps to existing wiring harnesses in the vehicles. It is recommended to cut wire to length when making connections.
- Avoid moving parts (steering column, pedals, HVAC, etc.) and sharp objects (Metal plates). Using grommets or split loom is recommended when going through metal.
Connections:
- Ensure proper connection types (solder, military splice, poke and twist) are all acceptable.
- NOTE – It is strongly recommended to use a “WIRE-TO-WIRE” Connection for DATA Network connections.
- Protection of any wires with vinyl tape or heat shrink is required when wire insulation is compromised.
- Using “Fused” connections for power is required.
- When using an OBD Installation Harness ensure the female side is still accessible for Vehicle diagnostics.
